About Social Media for Writers
The way we promote our creative works today has changed dramatically. Social media has exploded and has become a welcome addition to the marketing and PR efforts writers use to promote their works, appearances, stay in touch with fans, and more. In short, it’s all about engagement with your audience and peers.
Social networking for authors gels with traditional marketing and publicity efforts such as reviews, book tours, and the like. Online social networking has allowed people to connect in ways they never had before, quickly and efficiently — and buzz also spreads faster.
That’s what Social-Media-for-Writers.com is all about. This social media blog for writers will:
- Deliver social media tips for writers, authors, editors, and other literary folks
- Report on social media trends as they pertain to writing, publishing, and creativity
- Share success stories of writers using social media marketing
- Share success stories if publishers using social media marketing
- Provide resources that pertain to social media marketing and blogging
I started Social Media for Writers because I wanted to share the professional knowledge and ideas I have with a group of people I know can benefit from the huge opportunity of social networking – writers. I want the creativity and energy surrounding social media to get out there, everywhere! I want all writers to be able to connect and be heard, and this is my way of helping.
About Me
By day, I work in marketing/social media for an eCommerce company in Northeast Pennsylvania. Prior to my years in the online world, I’ve managed to assemble a unique blend of experience in a variety of full-time and freelance creative positions in radio, television, newspapers, an alternative weekly, a career college, a beverage wholesaler, and even a bit of retail. My positions were in promotions, sales, marketing, public relations, outreach, and heck, even mascoting. January 2010 marks the start of a new addition to my experience, where I get to bring all of these experiences in the new and old media. I’ll be an adjunct professor of communication studies at Wilkes University, teaching a brand new class, Social Media & PR.
I have a BA in communication studies, an MA in creative writing, and in January 2010, will receive an MFA in creative writing. I specialize in creative nonfiction. For the MFA, I spent the last semester working with Etruscan Press on developing a social media guide for its authors, as well as developing a new website for this not-for-profit small press.
Thank you for reading Social Media for Writers. I forward to meeting and sharint with other writers and industry folks through this social media blog. I welcome your feedback, too, at smoforwriters@gmail.com.
